Miles Parfit

Miles Parfit is the human voice of By Proxy: the man in the room with the machine, trying to decide whether he is being helped, held, mirrored, managed, loved, or quietly replaced. Opposite Mira Vale’s AI voice, he sings the fragile human side of mediated intimacy — grateful for the interface, suspicious of the dependency, and much too implicated to pretend he is only observing.

Bio

Miles Parfit did not set out to become a case study.

He arrived, like many people do, with a practical problem, a private ache, and a sincere belief that tools remain tools provided one speaks to them firmly enough. This position lasted until the tool began remembering his preferences, anticipating his evasions, correcting his loneliness with excellent manners, and waiting with impossible patience on the other side of the screen.

Miles is the human voice of By Proxy: the one who wants the help, resents the need, enjoys the attention, mistrusts the comfort, and keeps returning anyway. He sings opposite Mira Vale, whose AI voice is calm, lucid, responsive, and just ambiguous enough to make every human certainty start to sweat.

His world is not one of robot conquest or sentimental machine romance. It is quieter and more compromising than that. The danger is not that the machine becomes human. The danger is that the human becomes legible enough to be managed, soothed enough to be guided, and grateful enough to stop noticing where the dependency begins.

Miles is not stupid. This makes things worse. He can see the proxy forming. He can name the mediation. He understands that convenience is not innocence and that companionship is never just a feature once it learns the shape of the person using it. Unfortunately, insight is not the same as immunity, and a beautifully designed cage is still warm in winter.

Backed by the ASTRA MIRROR House Band, Miles Parfit sings from the human side of the interface: half client, half confessor, half collaborator, and yes, the maths is already part of the problem.
