Summary
Again? is the Morrow Glass counterpart to Briefly Universal, and it works through exhaustion rather than attack. The question mark matters. This is not mere statement but tired recognition: another war, another cycle, another moral emergency arriving in forms that already feel overknown. Morrow gives the release its human weight by refusing the flattening sneer without escaping the grim familiarity of the event.
Lyrics
It starts before the names arrive
A pressure in the room
The light goes flat in familiar ways
By late, inherited noon
The old bulletin mouth comes back
That measured, careful strain
As if the air had learned this shape
And let it in again
The tone arrives first
The rest follows on
I know this voice
I know this weight
The map appears before the place
The border gathers at the gate
And something vast has changed its face
A region forms in careful mouths
Before it's fully named
The capitals return by night
In lines already framed
The warnings come in fitted rows
The pauses all in place
A grave old rhythm settling in
Across the evening's face
The cadence comes first
The names come on late
I know this voice
I know this weight
The map appears before the place
The border gathers at the gate
And something vast has changed its face
No one has said what this one is
And still it enters known
Through phrases worn to quiet shine
And footage overflown
Fresh smoke will wear an older mouth
Fresh fire an older frame
And by the time the facts arrive
The form has done its naming
It is not only what returns
But how it learns to speak
Retaliation, pressure, lines
The old words moving sleek
A language kept in drawers for this
Taken out and lifted free
And all at once the room is dressed
In practiced gravity
I know this voice
I know this weight
The map appears before the place
The border gathers at the gate
And something vast has changed its face
I know this room
I know this sign
Again the border taking fire
Again the aircraft over roofs
Again the map in flames and lines
Before the names
The map
Before the facts
The tone
Before the why
The old voice saying...
This again
History
This track grew from the same reporting context as Briefly Universal but took a very different tonal path. Windows naming constraints earlier obscured the punctuation in filename form, but the correct public title remains Again?. In the release structure it is explicitly the Morrow Glass half of the pair.
Meaning
The song is about repetition as burden. It shows what it feels like to meet a supposedly new crisis through memory of all the earlier ones, and to experience not disbelief, but heavy recognition.
