Summary

Instructions for Voters is a theatrical political release built around democratic ritual as managed public performance. Rather than treating electoral politics as a neutral marketplace of preferences or a purely ideological battlefield, it stages parties, instructions, scripts, appeals, atmospheres, and final transfer as though the whole process were part bureaucracy, part ceremony, part absurd civic pageant. That gives the release its distinct place in the canon: it is about politics as publicly enacted form, where legitimacy, disgust, duty, messaging, and role-performance all coexist.

History

The release emerged from discussion of the next (after 2024) UK general election under conditions in which the major parties appeared weakened, legitimacy seemed thinned, and challenger parties were pressing in from multiple directions. That made the usual electoral script feel more theatrical than stable. The album therefore took shape as a pageant rather than a programme: a release structured around parties, scenes, instructions, and closing ceremony rather than around one single thesis-song. It belongs near the posture/theatre lane of the canon, but it stands as its own release rather than as a subunit of Attainted Postures.

Meaning

The album is about democratic ritual under strain. It shows politics not as pure deception, but as a highly staged public process in which messaging, role-allocation, moral signalling, electoral disgust, symbolic participation, and managed transfer all matter at once. Instructions for Voters matters because it captures the strange blend of seriousness and absurdity in electoral life when institutions still function, but public belief in them has become thinner, more fractured, and more theatrical.
